Fijnder, the social development company for residents of Berkelland, Oost Gelre and Winterswijk, starts implementing its plan Towards a future-proof work-study environmentThis will gradually transform the existing workplace into an environment where learning, working, and development go hand in hand.
The renewed approach aligns with the national policy of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW), in which social development companies play a key role in strengthening participation, inclusion and sustainable employability.
Ellen Dusseldorp, member of the Executive Board on behalf of the municipality Oost Gelre:
Everyone wants to make a difference. With this work-study program, we're creating a place where people can learn, grow, and discover what suits them. This way, we're making the transition to work or social participation more accessible to more people.
Springboard and safe haven
The work-study program will serve as a springboard for those seeking employment and a safe haven for those who (temporarily) benefit from a sheltered environment. Residents can develop their skills, independence, language skills, and professional knowledge. The focus will shift from production to development: people will have more opportunities to learn and, with guidance, take steps toward regular employment.
It is important that the workshop is available for the people who are currently at Fijnder Workers and new employees who require additional support will remain in their familiar workplace. They will continue to work in Groenlo, within their own teams and with their regular colleagues.
Together with the region
Fijnder works closely with local employers, educational institutions, and social partners. The work-study program combines learning programs for various target groups: young people, non-Dutch speakers, people receiving social assistance benefits, and employees in sheltered employment.
This creates a single development environment in which everyone can grow at his or her own level.
Elvira Schepers, chairman of the Executive Board on behalf of the municipality Winterswijk:
“By working together more effectively, we ensure that people who do not automatically find work still have a chance in the labor market.”
The transformation is in line with the national call from the caretaker State Secretary Nobel to make social development companies future-proof. Additional funding is also available nationally to support this innovation.
Learn, work and develop close to home
The new approach at Fijnder focuses on measurable development: people are guided in increasing their skills, self-confidence and independence.
For those who are ready to move on, we actively seek work or training in the region.
Ria Leliveld, member of the Executive Board on behalf of the municipality Berkelland:
The work-study program enables more people to improve their job prospects. Employers are also closely involved in the program. This way, we prepare people for professions that are in demand.
